About Scott Rench
You never know what chance meeting will change your life. My name is Scott Rench and some time around 1992 I met a graphic design major named Larry Geiger while attending graduate school. This chance meeting would have a profound affect on my life.\Larry told me about this program called Photoshop and all the things he was able to do. I was so intrigued by the process, when I saw the computer and all the things he could do I was hooked.\I really wanted to explore this computer thing. It was not until a Christmas break, when the chair of the art department, gave me his building key, that I got to really sit in front of the computer. For the next 30 days me and my friend Jim would spend 15 or more hours a day in front of the computer. It was during this time that I taught myself Photoshop, Illustrator and QuarkXpress, to this day about 90% of what I know I learned during those 30 days.\This chance meeting would open a career in advertising and shape the direction of my artwork.\My ceramic work, consists of computer generated images that are printed with a ceramic glaze onto a large canvas of clay. Creating and collecting images, I scan them into the computer and manipulate them to fit the concept. The new image is output onto transparent film that acts as a stencil for transferring the image to a silk-screen. Glaze is then used (instead of ink) to print the image on to a slab of clay. Once completely dry the slabs are fired in a kiln, producing an image that will stand the test of time indoor or outdoor.\A ceramist for more than 15 years my work has been featured in exhibits and publications nationally and internationally. I have an M.F.A. degree from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. I currently work out of my Chicago studio. Self-taught in computer design, I also work as a freelance art director/graphic artist.
